What will 2025 bring?

While the creatures of Westwind may be bunkered down for the winter, we are hard at work preparing for another exciting year! What will 2025 bring? Many amazing programs and exciting progress to existing efforts. Conservation work on our many ecosystems, working to enhance your experience through site improvement projects, and launching new programs to deepen your understanding of Westwind’s mission and values. Here’s what you should be excited about this year!

Conservation

We are engaged in two ongoing conversation efforts to protect and restore coastal prairie habitat. We continue to work with the Institute for Applied Ecology to monitor the health of Iris Meadow. Iris Meadow is home to many native species of wildflowers vital to the health and lifecycle of the endangered Oregon Silverspot Butterfly. We are also continuing conservation efforts to restore coastal prairie habitat at Fraser Farm. Our goal is that these projects can become a blueprint for coastal conservation and continue to protect vital ecosystems along the coast. We are also bringing conversations about exciting new conservation initiatives. Stay tuned!

Site Work

2025 is another exciting year for our cabin remodels and SSC partnership program. Over many weekends this winter, we welcome students from SSC to complete renovations on multiple cabins. These renovations seek to improve comfort and energy efficiency while offering high school students hands-on opportunities to utilize the carpentry skills they learn in class. In addition, we continue to lay the groundwork for Phase 2 of the Inclusive Bathroom Project. We are gathering supplies and input for the renovations to Cascade Head. This project will usher in a new era of inclusive building design at Westwind and ensure visitors feel comfortable indoors, so they can boldly explore the outdoors.

Programs

Westwind is continually working to grow and adapt our programs to offer the best experience possible. We offer a variety of programs for kids and adults from March through November. These programs explore all sides of Westwind’s diverse ecosystems and stitch together the incredible fabric of the Westwind community.

Join us in March for the inaugural Spring Foraging Camp. Join us for a weekend and explore the incredible ecosystems of Westwind. Learn from experienced ecologists, foragers, and naturopaths about edible plants, forest ecology, and herbal medicine, while connecting with an incredible community of foragers. And save the date for our third annual Earth Day Event–April 19th, 2025.
