To our Westwind friends and families –
We hope this message finds you and your families safe and healthy.
We’re reaching out to you today with a heavy heart. In alignment with the state’s cancellation of all overnight youth summer camps, sadly Westwind will not be holding camp programs this summer. This includes all scheduled youth, teen, and family camps.
We had hoped for a different outcome.
This decision comes at an incredible cost. As a non-profit camp with a charitable mission, summer camp program fees are used throughout the year to prepare for camp. This includes paying for year-round staff, training, site maintenance, and utilities. Many of these expenses have already been expended or incurred preparing for the 2020 season, and with this cancellation, we are losing the fees that support them.
Camp Westwind has left a positive legacy for families for over 84 years, helping children find love for the outdoors and experience a welcoming community, and it would be truly heartbreaking for this to be our last summer. It is still our hope that the future of Camp Westwind is not lost forever, but we need your help.
Thank you to so many of you who have already contributed to the Camp Westwind Recovery Fund. If you haven’t yet, please consider making a gift today to help ensure Westwind does not close permanently due to the unprecedented loss we are experiencing due to this crisis.
In addition, we are excited to announce a new rental opportunity for the remainder of the summer. In just a couple of weeks, we will be offering families the opportunity to stay at Westwind through our Family Cabin Rental program. Following all state and local guidelines, we are confident that this will be a safe and fun way for families to visit Westwind this summer. While registration will be limited to families with summer camp cancellations for the first two weeks, reservations will be open to the public beginning June 26th.
