Loss of ODS Funding Hurts Westwind

Westwind and Oregon Outdoor School Need Your Help

As soon as Summer 2025 ended, Westwind began preparing for Summer 2026. One of the thorniest issues each year is pricing. It is difficult to predict how the economy and our expenses will change.

One of the ways we keep our camp and program prices from skyrocketing is renting the site each spring and fall. Our largest rental is to Outdoor School.

Oregon Outdoor School is in trouble!

In 2016, Oregon voters overwhelmingly approved 4% of Lottery funds via Measure 99 to work toward sending every Oregon fifth or sixth-grade student to a week of Outdoor School. However, this last summer, the Oregon Legislature got it wrong and made a significant reduction in the amount of money available for Outdoor School in Oregon.

The reduction of funding means less Outdoor School for Oregon students and a significant loss of revenue for camps across Oregon, including Westwind. Westwind has had to cut staff positions and lost nearly $200,000 in funding targeted toward much needed site improvements!

We need your help to make this loss sting less for the Westwind community and help return Outdoor School funding to the level approved by voters.
