Spring Foraging Camp

Spring Foraging Camp

This two-night, three-day camp is Westwind's newest program. Join us for our second annual Foraging Camp and celebrate the incredible biodiversity of Westwind's site. Participants will participate in educational workshops and demonstrations. You will select different forays, each focusing on an ecosystem and all that it has to offer. Our forays and workshops are taught by guest instructors and experts. You will leave with new skills and knowledge around plant identification, edible and medicinal processing, conservation goals in the works, and a deeper appreciation for our temperate rainforest.

What to expect at Spring Foraging Camp

What should you expect at Spring Foraging Camp?

Stay tuned for updated 2026 information! Our 2025 program offered the following:

Three different tracks on Saturday that participants chose from:

1. Edible plants and how to ID them, followed by a culinary workshop with Lorelle Sherman.

2. Medicinal plants and how to ID them, followed by a herbal and medicinal workshop with Juliet Howard.

3. Wildcrafts and how to use plants in crafts, followed by a crafting workshop with Shelby Lynn.

On Saturday evening, we shared and learned from each other!

On Sunday, a morning exploring our intertidal zones followed by a cyanotype workshop, all led by Alanna Kieffer.

Friday evening featured a lecture by Cascade Head Biosphere and Westwind expert Duncan Barry who welcomed us with knowledge, stories, and history of this amazing land.

Westwind's site has incredibly biodiversity and remains largely protected and is home to intact old growth forests, dune forests, the Salmon River Estuary, and inter-tidal zones. Spring brings rain and fresh growth among our vast selection of beautiful plants, flowers, berries, and more. Spring Foraging Camp is a chance to explore it all!
